On Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, we traveled to Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, OK, to attend a workshop on Journey Land. This is their new children’s education program based on a workshop rotation model. The 1st - 5th graders spend six weeks studying a particular theme (say, Noah’s Ark) and they are divided into groups that spend one Sunday and the following Wednesday in one workshop. Each week they rotate to a different workshop. Each workshop addresses one of the multiple intelligences (verbal/linguistic, mathematical/logical, visual/spatial, kinesthetic, music, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and naturalist). This means that one workshop is music, another is theater, another is computer lab, there’s also art, geography, film, and storytelling. This model of teaching gives the children the same lesson in six different ways and increases their depth of knowledge and appreciation for God’s word. We can’t wait to get started implementing it at our congregation!
